Should You Take Menopause Diet Pills?

As menopause begins women often find many less than ideal images entering their minds. One typical concern is that menopause will make you pile on the pounds like never before.

Indeed, as people age and start to enter their forties and fifties their metabolism does begin to slow down. What is very important to remember is that there is no concrete evidence as yet that menopause its self causes weight gain.

Any weight issues experienced during menopause, e.g. bloatedness, are often be blamed on the menopause it’s self, typically wrongly. Menopause diet pills are not the solution to people’s particular weight gains.

Pills specifically aimed at reducing weight during menopause are misleading. The phrase ‘whilst experiencing hot flashes and mood swings you exercise, you barely eat, and you still pile on the pounds in areas you never had before’ can often be seen on menopause diet pill containers. These are pure marketing trash designed to prey on women’s insecurities in order to make sales. Often someone with the title of doctor will have supposedly helped to create these wonder pills that have been tried and tested for up to more than two decades. Pills such as these are typically the standard dieting pills from one of the many manufacturers, simply with a different name on the front of the packet. In no way are they specific to menopause.

Other pills on the market may have more of an effect with burning fat but should not be taken by menopausal women due to various substances contained therein actually potentially increasing the wide ranging uncomfortable symptoms of menopause.

Any product which contains caffeine or a similar caffeine shaped chemical compound should ideally be avoided. Many additives on pill box labels contain this type of ingredient e.g. kola nut, guarana, green tea extract, yerba mate and bitter orange (citrus aurantium).

Caffeine acts to heighten menopausal difficulties, but also can create another set of irritating side effects. Not uncommon are nervousness, elevated blood pressure, cases of the jitters and palpitations of the heart.

If pills must be taken for anything, unless approved by your doctor, they should be vitamin-specific pills used to increase certain vitamins and minerals in your diet.

If you want to loose weight whilst undergoing menopause then standard fitness advice is what is required. Consume a moderate quantity of healthy and varied food whilst also frequently exercising at the appropriate pace for your level of fitness. A healthy diet lowers your blood cholesterol levels, provides just the right energy required for the day and has been known to improve your positive outlook on life. Regular exercise has been seen to raise your metabolic rate, aiding weight loss, and lower stress and the risk of a multitude of serious diseases, such as osteoporosis, diabetes and cancer.

A Little Tired These Days? Try Supporting Those Adrenal Glands!

Healthy adrenal glands…something we rarely think about, but our fast-paced lifestyles push these little organs to the limit. Overtaxed by stress, stimulants, sugar and a variety of habits, our body’s energy control centers are easily maxed-out, resulting in fatigue, depression and even weight gain. In a holistic health, wellness and fitness program, awareness one’s lifestyle and its effect on these important hormone regulators is worthy of attention.

The adrenal glands are each no bigger than a walnut and weigh less than a grape. They sit like a tiny pyramid on top of each kidney, their name ‘ad’ + ‘renal’ means ‘over’ or ‘above’ the ‘kidney’. The glands are important control centers for regulation of many of the body’s hormones, either secreting directly or controlling the release of cortisol and adrenaline, DHEA, estrogen, and testosterone, which are essential to ones health, vitality, and overall well-being. The adrenal hormones support and affect every tissue, organ, and gland in your body. Their primary purpose is to enable the body and mind to deal with various forms of stress including injury, disease, and other pressures. The adrenals largely determine the energy response of your body to every change in one’s internal and external environment, in fact, every cell in your body responds to signals from the adrenals.

An estimated 75-80% of Westerners suffer from ‘Adrenal fatigue’ at some point in their lives. Adrenal fatigue is a described as a collection of signs and symptoms classically known as a “syndrome” that results when the adrenal glands function below the necessary level. Signs and symptoms may include severe fatigue, lightheadedness upon standing, depression and irritability, lack of sex drive, exhaustion and general malaise, loss of appetite, food cravings, and dark circles around the eyes. Most commonly associated with intense or prolonged stress, various other situations contribute to adrenal fatigue including life crisis, trauma, lifestyle, and chronic illness. Other factors that contribute to the depletion of adrenal health include certain lifestyle choices such as improper diet, substance abuse, too little or irregular sleep or rest and increased or other on-going life-style pressures.

One of the essential functions of your adrenal glands is to draw all your body’s resources into “fight or flight” mode by increasing the production of adrenaline and various other hormones. When the adrenals are healthy one’s ability to respond to situations appropriately is enhanced. This renewed freedom allows for a whole host of possibilities given a stressful situation. When healthy, your adrenals can instantly increase your heart rate and blood pressure, release energy stores for immediate use, sharpen your senses, slow digestion and various other secondary functions. This function is extremely important in emergency situations - poorly functioning, overtaxed adrenal glands can lessen your ability to deal effectively with crisis situations. Another aspect of healthy adrenals is the ability to endure long periods of physical exertion such as seen in marathon running, swimming, long distance cycling, and similarly, the day to day responsibilities of parenting. When supported by healthy adrenals, one’s natural energy supply is balanced. It is your adrenal glands job to react to stress in a balanced manner so that one’s response is appropriate to the situation and not injurious.

The hormones produced by the adrenal glands closely affect the utilization of carbohydrates and fats, the conversion of fats and proteins into energy, as well as the distribution of stored adipose (fatty tissue) on the body (especially around the waist), blood sugar regulation, and healthy cardiovascular and gastrointestinal (digestive and absorptive) function. Interestingly, at mid-life (menopause in women), the adrenal glands become the primary source for sex hormones circulating throughout the body in both genders. So in essence, overworked adrenal glands pretty much put a damper on your sex life - quashing your interest and putting a spare tire around your belly. Maybe their health is worth looking into!

The following are some natural suggestions for nourishing and rejuvenating adrenal health: We’ll start with an easy one; an adequate intake of water. This is a must in all natural health, wellness and fitness programs as it helps keep the kidney flushed and cleanses the body so it has less toxins to deal with, hence less stress. I use the formula .6 x body weight = ounces of water per day for my clients. This is a number that should be moved towards over time. For example if weigh 150 pounds your daily water intake would be 90 ounces. .6 x 150 = 90 ounces. If you are currently drinking 40 ounces of water per day and your (ideal) daily ounce intake is 90 ounces, increase gently to your ideal ounces of water over the next month or two.

Next is peace and quite. Take 10 minutes of time to sit in silence at both the beginning and the end of each day. Find a quiet place in your home or outside near a tree or natural source of water. Sit in a comfortable position and gently follow the rhythm of your breath. Allow yourself this sacred quiet time each day as an opportunity to nourish and assimilate, ground and rejuvenate your energy. Adequate fresh air, deep breaths, and movement. Spend time in nature-walking along the ocean, at a park, on a well traveled trail. Take full deep breaths and inhale in the healing power of the natural world. Take time to look at the trees and flower as well as the sky and various birds and so on. Enjoy this time outside as healing and nourishing. All this will give your adrenal glands a break and let them build reserves for future needs.

As for dietary recommendations, decrease (or preferably eliminate) intake of processed sugars and increase intake of natural earth sugars from root vegetables such as yams, carrots, turnips, and beets. Processed sugars truly poison the body every time they are eaten and causing stress to the system. Sweets are a hard habit to break, but you’ll notice a significant increase in balanced energy when you’re able to reduce their intake. Next, ingest adequate amounts of essential fatty acids. Various sources include fish oils, evening primrose oil, borage oil, hemp oil, coconut oil, and flax oils. Research which sources are best for your needs. Essential fats are precursors to many hormones in the body and will support your overall well-being. Finally, do your best to cut out caffeine from all sources. Even green tea, which is wonderful for you in moderation, can upset sleep patterns and add pressure to an already stressful lifestyle. Coffee is high in other stimulant compounds which seem to truly aggravate those already in tense situations, and cola and so-called ‘energy’ drinks may be the worst contributors to adrenal fatigue of all with their combination of processed sugars and refined caffeine.

As for some soothing treatments, taking time for baths using Epsom salts or apple cider vinegar (a tablespoon of either is sufficient) will help to pull out fatigue and ‘acidity’ from the your mind and body. Light a candle and read a book or simply soak in the warm water imaging your worries and stress washing away as you renew, strengthen, and ‘purify’ your energy. Consider adding a few drops of pure Lavender essential oil to your bath and allow the relaxing aroma to help you relax and refresh. A favorite essential oil bath blend: 4 drops Lavender essential oil, 1 drop Rose essential oil. Rose oil is often used for the decreasing stress and depression, while Lavender has a calming and mood lifting effect.

The following essential oil blend used directly over the adrenals first thing in the morning and then again in the (early) evening can help to nourish, strengthen, and rejuvenate the adrenals. This is described in Advanced Aromatherapy, by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, one of America’s leading medical aromatherapists. In a 30 ml (one ounce blue cobalt or amber glass bottle) add Black Spruce 2 ml, Pine essential oil 1 ml, Cedarwood essential oil 1 ml, and fill the remainder of the bottle with Hazelnut carrier oil (unless allergic to nuts-then choose another appropriate carrier oil). Use about 1 ml (20-30 drops) at a time and rub into the adrenal area at the bottom of your ribs on your back.

Finally, get some real deep sleep. The two hours before midnight is consider essential time for sleep for rejuvenating sleep. Start consciously moving your bedtime towards the bewitching hour of 10 pm and notice the shift in health. A couple of drops of Lavender essential oil on your pillow can help with sleep, as been show in many studies. If you need, try an herbal formula to help you rest, or a small dose of melatonin. Try finishing your last meal as early as possible, too, as going to bed on a full stomach lessens the quality of rest.

Your adrenal glands are a crucial part of your health and a positive outlook and approach to your life. By considering these few lifestyle factors and natural remedies, you can significantly improve your adrenal gland health, and perhaps remove yourself from the majority of the Adrenal Fatigue statistic!

Are you still struggling with abs exercise to lose belly fat
without seeing results? Stop for a moment and check your weight
loss diet. Are you consuming enough dairy products? Dairy
products are full of slimming nutrients, such as protein,
calcium, selenium and fatty acids. You can lose 5 to 10
pounds, including from belly fat just by adding dairy
products.
Hence, you can get rid of that fat belly by making
simple changes in your weight loss program today!

However, if you are lactose-intolerant, there is still a better
solution. You can switch to cultured dairy, such as yogurt,
kefir, and hard and soft cheeses. You might be able to lose
about 80 percent more belly fat and around 5 to 10 pounds of
water weight by consuming cultured dairy products
than your
regular processed cow’s milk because these products will help
you stabilize your digestive system faster. In addition, calcium
helps you maintain bone density, lean muscles, and increase your
fat loss.

Cultured dairy products, such as yogurt and kefir, have live
cultures, which are good bacteria and cause less body bloating
because the sugars and protein complexes have been broken down
and improve your digestive system. Moreover, protein can
boost your metabolism, help you burn more fat,
and make you
feel satisfied longer avoiding excessive cravings.

You will be consuming good fat to get rid of your bad belly
stored fat.
Fatty acids are good to help you lose belly fat.
For example, cheese and other dairy products contain friendly
fat, known as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which is a good fat that helps reduce body fat and
increase lean muscle mass, and lower your bad cholesterol.

Still not convinced about increasing daily dairy products to
lose belly fat?
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology &
Metabolism published a study revealing that, “Women who consumed
higher intakes of calcium from dairy foods experienced more
significant losses in weight and body fat than those women who
consumed calcium from nondairy sources.”

Hence, if you are trying to get rid of belly fat reach for
low-fat and non fat dairy products as your friendly belly fat
burners.

If you still want to know how to get rid of belly fat,
other products that can boost your metabolism to burn more belly
fat include drinking green tea for weight loss; adding ginger
and fennel to your meals because it fights bloating symptoms,
eliminate gas, and improve your digestive system; consuming
anise seed; and preparing a leek and celery soup to cleanse your
metabolism naturally.

Tofu is another great product to help you burn belly fat.
A serving size (3 oz) has only 70 calories, 8gr protein, 3.5 gr
of fat, and only 2 gr of carb. You can eat it grilled, in
salads, soup, shake, BBQ kebabs, use your creativity. Most
important, make sure you are consuming your 8 glasses of
water dairy to keep your body hydrated and help your body to
eliminate wastes and flush toxins.

In a nutshell, these 3 steps will help you lose belly fat
faster:

1. Combining your current abs exercise.

2. Adding 30-45 minutes cardio exercises at least 3 times a
week.

3. Adjusting your weight loss diet can lead to a successful
weight loss program and finally get rid of that belly fat.

Listen, targeted exercises alone are not enough to burn fat, you
need to combine cardio exercises to burn general stored
fat,
especially belly fat and those accumulated in the lower
body.

Make sure you are also sleeping enough and not consuming too
much alcohol, especially men drinking too much beer and creating
that beer belly. While a regular beer (12 oz) has about 143
calories, 16 gr alcohol, a light beer version has about 108
calories and 14 gr alcohol.

However, a glass of red wine (4 oz) has about 90 calories and 14
gr alcohol, while the light white wine version has about 52
calories and 8 gr alcohol. Imagine, the US Department of Health
and Human Services, which publishes a guidelines every 5 years,
considers “moderate drinking” a daily intake of one drink for
women and two for men. Now, no wonder why men usually develop
that beer belly if drinking not only one but 3 or more
beers in one sitting!

Therefore, make your calculations when drinking alcohol and
think about your belly fat. The more extra empty calories you
consume, the more you will have to burn, meaning doing more
cardio exercises. Besides, try to eliminate regular soft drinks.

A regular soft drink has about 150 empty calories, including 15
teaspoons of sugar, and cause gases and bloated feeling. On the
other hand, drinking diet soft drinks might have 0 calories but
still they cause gases. If you must have a soft drink, then go
for diet ones… but preferably avoid both.

Therefore, you can finally unveil that trimmed abs by eating
healthy and applying the above tips. Losing weight should not
be a burden experience, but a healthy and happy experience
towards your new figure.

Eat every 3 hours healthy food and small portions, especially
having protein in the morning and dinner. Believe me, your
abs will say, “thank you.”
Hey, although I believe there is
no standard diet, these simple tips are working for me, and it
might work for you too. Give it a try and get ready to wear
those tight jeans and show your flat abs.

Certainly, let me hear from your belly fat and weight loss
success story.
In the meantime, let me get my cup of yogurt
to get rid of my belly fat. Cheers to our no more fat
belly!

A Weight-Loss Supplement The FDA Says Might Really Work

Government regulatory agencies are usually not big fans of weight-loss supplements. In January 2007, for example, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined four supplement companies a total of $25 million for making what the FTC said were unscientific claims about their weight-loss products.

I’m sensitive to such a slight (even if I think the FTC was right in this case) because I’m the co-author of a book about science-backed vitamin and herbal supplements that can aid weight loss, The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy (Broadway, 2007).

I wrote the book with Harry Preuss, MD, a professor at Georgetown University Medical Center, a researcher with more than 300 scientific studies to his credit, a nutritionist, and a world-class expert in using natural remedies for weight-loss.

Dr. Preuss and I were very careful to present only the vitamins, herbs and food factors that study after study shows can safely and effectively help you lose weight-by gently boosting metabolism…or slowing the body’s fat-making machinery…or reducing appetite…or building calorie-burning muscle…or blocking the absorption of fats and carbohydrates.

The natural remedies featured in the book include (get ready for a barrage of acronyms):

Â? EGCG (green tea extract)
Â? CLA (conjugated linoleic acid)
Â? HCA (hydroxycitric acid)
Â? MCT (medium-chain triglycerides)
Â? Chromium
Â? Chitosan and other soluble fibers
Â? 5-HTP (5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan)
Â? HMB

And there’s one more weight-loss remedy on that list. It’s a natural substance so effective, that the FDA has given permission for products containing it to include on their labels the fact that the supplement works.

The ingredient is a carbohydrate digestive enzyme inhibitor, or what is more commonly known as a starch-blocker.

Extracted from white kidney beans, it works by blocking the action of alpha amylase, the digestive enzyme that breaks down starch in the intestines. The result: it prevents a portion of the carbohydrates in any high-carb food (like pasta, bread or potatoes) from being absorbed.

And that’s a good thing if your diet includes lots of refined carbohydrates from white bread and white flour, which are often stored in the body as fat. With carb-blockers, you can have your cake (or at least an occasional slice) and eat it too.

In 2005, Dr. Preuss helped conduct a 1-month Italian study on carb-blockers. The researchers gave either starch-blockers or a placebo to 60 overweight but healthy people, aged 25 to 45, who ate a carbohydrate-rich diet of 2000- to 2500-calories a day. Their weight was measured at the beginning and end of the 1-month study.

The people taking the starch blockers lost 10 times more weight than the people taking the placebo-6.6 pounds, compared to 0.6.

A year earlier, researchers at the UCLA School of Medicine found that dieters taking a starch-blocker lost twice as much weight as people taking a placebo.

In both cases, the researchers were studying Phase 2, a starch-blocker ingredient used in many brands, like Carb Intercept from Natrol, Carb Shredder from Vitamin Shoppe, Carbo Tame from Jarrow Formulas, Phase 2 from Now, and Starch Blocker from CVS.

In November 2006, the FDA told the manufacturers of Phase 2, Pharmachem Laboratories, Inc., they could use the following two statements on products containing Phase 2:

May assist in weight control when used in conjunction with a sensible diet and exercise program, and

May reduce the enzymatic digestion of dietary starches.

If you decide to take a carb-blocker, here are a few helpful tips from Dr. Preuss. Take it with 8-ounces of water to help absorb the supplement. Take it with a meal, either right before or right after. And follow the dosage recommendation on the label.

And remember that carb-blockers are not miracle pills. (There are no miracle diet pills.) You can’t eat a couple of doughnuts every day and take carb-blockers and not gain weight.

If you’d like to know more about carb-blockers or any of the weight-loss supplements mentioned in this article, please take a look at my book, The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy. You can find out more about it-and my other books on health and healing-at www.drugfreehealing.com.

Good for You Surprises You Can Add to Your Diet Today

We’ve all been told (or told someone else) that finishing all your veggies or eating fresh fruit every day is a good way to keep your body healthy and fit. But there are some other surprising foods (drinks too) that we can add to our diet that bring impressive health benefits, and (in moderation, of course) might just help us reach our weight loss goals.

Here are the five, good for your surprises:

1. Tea – 3 cups per day of any type that comes from the leaves of the plant Carnellia sinensis, which includes black, green, white and oolong varieties. There is strong evidence that tea might just reduce your risk of heart disease, and offer other less researched benefits such as protection from cancer and cutting your risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Tea appears to have a type of flavonoid from that same family of antioxidants found in fruits, veggies and red wine. To get the most out of your cup of tea, make it strong and steep it a good long time-but if you’re watching your weight, keep an eye on the milk and sugar you add to your cup.

2. Dark Chocolate – a little goes a long way, but just like tea, this delicious treat is believed to have an ample supply of the same flavonoids in red wine, fruits and veggies. Small amounts of dark chocolate have been shown to improve blood vessel flow, and may stabilize blood sugar and insulin sensitivity, thus reducing the risk of diabetes. Choose dark chocolate that contains at least 70% cocoa so you get more of these healthy antioxidants, and fewer calories from the milk and sugars used to make milk or white chocolate.

3. Fatty Fish – two servings per week of fish such as salmon, trout, herring, tuna, sardines or mackerel. These fish are rich in omega – 3 fatty acids, shown to reduce cholesterol, which helps to keep clots from forming and causing heat attacks. The research is so compelling that the American Heart Association recommends eating fatty fish on a regular basis. Be sure you choose grilled or broiled recipes as frying removes many of the beneficial substances in the fish and replaces them with calories and saturated fats.

4. Coffee – despite its bad rap, used in moderation, your first cup of morning coffee may have health benefits you haven’t heard about – including stimulating the brain and nervous system as well as lowering your risk of diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, mood disorders and headaches. Coffee has a compound from the antioxidant family and is a good source of magnesium, both are believed to help improve sugar metabolism, help with insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. And while black coffee is a tasty zero calorie drink, adding cream, sugar, or other toppings adds calories that you might not want.

5. Avocados – even though these fruits are full of fat, most of it is the heart healthy monounsaturated kind that is believed to lower cholesterol. Avocados have carotenoids, vitamin E and potassium, plus fiber to fill you up. Be aware though, that just because the fats are “good” ones, they still add calories if you aren’t careful about portions. Slice them onto salads, add them to a soup or spread them on bread to keep the potion sizes under control while still getting all the taste and health benefits too.

Adding one or more of these surprisingly healthy options is a great way to improve a diet that could use some help, or boost the healthfulness of one that’s already on the right track. Along with regular exercise, eating a balanced and nutritious diet is still one of the best ways to maintain your weight and your health.

Detox Diet Benefits

What to Expect when Detox Dieting

All detox diets are a little bit different. Some restrict food down to almost nothing while others allow for mostly veggies, beans, fruit, and rice. There are a few things that you should expect when beginning a detox diet, so that you can receive the full detox diets benefits.

Your body is significantly used to adjusting to toxins and poisons running through your body. One of the greatest detox diet benefits, naturally, is that you will rid your body of these toxins and poisons. There are side effects of receiving these detox diet benefits. If you are particularly used to that steaming cup of caffeinated beverage in the morning, you will experience caffeine withdrawal. While it may not seem like it while you are experiencing caffeine withdrawal, this is one of the detox diet benefits. Once your body has adjusted to the absence of caffeine, you should find that you have more energy.

Constipation is considered a leading cause of lethargy and fatigue. One of the detox diet benefits is the cleansing of the colon, which can cure even long term constipation. I had a room mate that was on narcotic pain relievers for over a year due to a severe injury. The narcotics kept her chronically constipated. The day she was finally through with her narcotic pain relievers, she went through a detox diet. She found that the detox diet benefits included relieving her body of the narcotic dependency as well as relieved her chronic constipation. She now regularly cleanses and detoxifies her colon when she is having difficulty going to the restroom, with obvious detox diet benefits as she returns from the restroom with a pleased grin on her face instead of the anguish she used to live in.

Even with the detox diet benefits, some people report feeling a bit weak about one week into the detox diet. Most detox diets do reduce food consumption, which can have an effect. The basic key is knowing how to elongate the effects of the foods you do eat. Those who really struggle with the lowered food consumption report that splitting the lunches into 2 meals works better for them than eating just the suggested breakfast and lunch. This still gives them the detox diet benefits but doesn’t introduce additional foods into the scenario. Most detox diet experts state that provided you are not adding additional foods to the diet, segregating the meals into smaller snacks is perfectly acceptable.

The excessive water consumption associated with the detox diet is going to encourage your system to flush, which means you will be visiting the rest room much more often. This is a positive detox diet benefit. The more water that flushes your system the more toxins that will exit your body when you excrete it, and excreting it often will enhance the productivity of the entire process.

One of the little known detox diet benefits is the regeneration of the liver that can occur while following a detox diet. Milk thistle is typically recommended as part of the supplementation of the detox diet. Milk thistle aids in the liver’s ability to regenerate. It’s not a cure for liver disease, however it can help in the prevention of a liver disease, along with other changes to your lifestyle.

What Not to Expect when Detox Dieting

Detox dieting is designed to alleviate the ailments associated with large quantities of toxins that are built up in the human body. Detox dieting is not a “cure” for every disease. While most people experience great relief from every day annoying symptoms, detox dieting does not eliminate diseases that are already in the system. For instance, you can not rid you body of cancer cells by detox dieting. The cancer cells, for starters are not an actual toxin. They may have been caused by toxins, but the cells themselves are not something that can be flushed away.

Most people drop several pounds when detox dieting. There are those who drop a significant amount of weight when detox dieting. This is normal, and while some of it can be contributed to the flushing of fat cells, water weight, and calorie reduction, there is some permanent weight loss happening provided you do not return to eating habits that are probable for weight gain. This means that if you were prone to eating potato chips and cookies prior to detox dieting and you return to eating potato chips and cookies after detox dieting, you will gain the weight back. This may seem obvious, but there are plenty of foods that people believe contain a low calorie and low fat content but in reality they contain quite the opposite. An avocado for example contains nearly three times the amount of fat and calories as a measured serving of enriched white rice. While detox dieting, learn to recognize the foods you are putting into your body and what they actually do once they enter your gullet.

Detox dieting is not a cure for serious emotional or mental conditions, such as clinical depression. While many people admit to feeling less “depressed” during and after detox dieting, there is a difference between situational depression and clinical depression. Clinical depression requires medication. Detox dieting can not take the place of medication that is necessary to function on a day to day basis. Situational depression may be alleviated through detox dieting simply because you are taking control of your body, your health, in essence, your situation. These two depressions are significantly different.

How is Detox Dieting Different from Other Diet Plans?

Diet plans are a dime a dozen. There are grapefruit diet plans and the Atkins diet plan and the green tea diet plan and the national chain diet plans. An individual can spend countless hours and thousands of dollars “trying on” various diet plans. Some will work while others will ultimately fail. Why? Because not all diet plans will work for everyone. Does detox dieting work for everyone? Yes. Why? Because losing weight is a by product of the goal. The goal is to clean the body of the various toxins and wastes which have accumulated over the years. This is a process of ridding the body of the ailing chemicals we introduce it to on a daily basis while eliminating the build up of residual toxins. Weight loss occurs as a result of numerous factors, but weight loss in not the primary goal of a detox diet plan.

Keep in mind that not all detox diet plans are the same. Some detox diet plans are put together by professionals who understand the body’s ability to cleanse itself of these harmful chemicals. While diet plans are typically put together by an entrepreneurial spirit, the detox diet plan was actually something that originated by a naturopathist, an individual who studies the various body types and how they process things on their own unique level. Since the detox diet plan was developed, there have been a remarkable number of “knock off” detox diet plans that have shown up on the market. These are all plans that suggest you stop eating and drink only diluted juice for several days (beyond twenty four hours this becomes unhealthy) and then limits food intake so dramatically that people find it impossible to stick to. If you’re going to try any diet plan at all, it would simply make sense to start at the beginning. The beginning of healthy weight loss is a healthy body.

The dramatic detox diet benefits is that people who tried to detoxify their bodies using the original detox diet plan found themselves losing weight as a welcome surprise. Detox dieting has grown in popularity due to its dual effect. Detox dieting cleanses the body of the toxins and as a result, weight loss occurs. There simply isn’t another diet plan that can match that no matter what they claim.

We live in a cluttered and chemically enriched society. Compare our lifestyles, our food products, and our basic need for heat and eat meals to the lifestyles and foods of people in remote and natural regions such as the Pacific Islands. People in natural regions are healthier overall. They eat natural foods that haven’t been laced with chemicals and they live natural lives that don’t revolve around the constant breathing of polluted air. Their bodies are not only healthier, but they are naturally thinner. They have fewer health complaints such as headaches and toothaches and stomach cramping.

The detox diet plan can help you jumpstart your body toward a healthier state of being. Naturally, effective detox dieting requires an effective detox diet plan. You really shouldn’t just linger out there in cyberspace hoping the right detox diet plan will pop up into your browser. There are very few detox diet plans that I would dare put my stamp of approval on. However, one in particular I have found has excellent reviews by some actual detox dieters. Finding an authentic detox diet plan that is effective, safe, and of course reliable shouldn’t be left to luck.

Drink and Dieting - the Best Drinks for Dieters

When people diet they don’t think carefully about what they drink – You need to though.

Eating and drinking are closely linked eat the right foods and drink the wrong drinks and you will reduce your chances of losing weight.

What are the best things to drink when on a diet?

Here we will look at the best drinks to aid weight loss and the ones that can slow down, or make your diet ineffective.

Let’s look at drink and dieting and start with the best drink of all first.

1. Water

Water pure and simple is the single best drink for losing weight and is the most important catalyist for weight loss in ANY diet.

A dieter should drink at least eight glasses of water.

Water is quite possibly the single most important catalyst in losing weight and keeping it off.

It acts as a natural appetite suppressant by keeping your stomach full and fending off dehydration which can lead to hunger pangs.

Many times when you feel “hunger signals”, they are actually “thirst signals”, so before eating, drink a glass of water instead.

Most importantly of all, water helps your body metabolizes stored fat by helping the kidneys flush out waste.

When you don’t drink enough water the liver which works to provide stored fat for energy also takes on the task of helping out the kidneys and thus becomes less effective at metabolizing fat.

Drinking eight glasses of ice cold water a day burns about 62 calories because your body has to work to raise that waters temperature to body temperature – That amounts to about 430 calories per week.

2. Alcohol and soda

When dieting, don’t drink to much alcohol or sodas that are high in sugar. They contain plenty of calories and also make you feel hungry. So moderation is the order of the day.

Not all alcoholic drinks contain the same ingredients and have different affects on a diet.

Pure spirits are one of the best type of drinks to consume while on a diet because they contain approx 100 calories and very little in way of carbohydrates.

Examples would be shots of vodka, rum, Bacardi, or gin - With no mixer added.

If mixing these drinks when on a diet make sure you use diet tonic and diet cola’s etc

Wine is ok in moderation and many people like a glass with their meal a typical glass of red or white is both low in carbohydrates and calories.

Don’t go for sweet wines though stay with dry as they are not so fattening.

Beer is full of calories and really when dieting drink in moderation. Keep in mind that a pint of beer can contain a whopping 300 calories.

3. Coffee & Tea

Coffee is fat-free, but drinking it can be detrimental to diets why? - Because even though coffee in itself is fat-free, it is what can be added that hurts your diet.

Low and fat free milk is fine, but avoid cream. Finally, go easy on the sugar, if you have a sweet tooth.

All you have to do is remember that without added sugar or cream, coffee does not contain any calories.

Plain tea does not have any calories before you add your sweeteners and milk.

If you are looking for an option that does not contain caffeine, you may want to check out black or green tea. Many herbal teas possess a diuretic effect.

When it comes to the drinking of iced tea, you need to check the label to make sure that it contains no sugar.

4. Green Tea

A favorite diet drink is green tea.

The benefits of drinking green tea can be seen through the high concentration of antioxidants that can be found.

Studies have also shown that the benefits of green tea for dieting are visible when drinking just one cup a day and weight loss is speeded up.

5. Fruit Juices

When choosing a fruit juice while dieting, you should always look at the nutritional information found on the label.

You need to make sure that the juice is made from real fruit and not the sugar-filled concentrates that are loaded with calories. Providing the juice is natural any fruit or vegetable juice can be incorporated in your diet.

6. Milk

Milk contains calories but if used correctly in a diet can help you lose weight. Make sure that you choose low or fat free varieties that contain far less calories

One of the reasons that milk helps some to lose weight because it makes you feel full. It also aids in bone strength, as well as lowers blood pressure and provides a load of other nutrients our bodies need.

When dieting we all have to drink and the choices we make can have a big affect on how much weight we lose as you can from the above.

By all means enjoy any drink even alcohol but do so in moderation

Beating The Gain

We all know about those pounds that tend to creep on as we age. Even if it seems that nothing else changes, our weight tends to creep up a pound or two each year, particularly once we hit 40.

But, there are ways to beat this gain that seems to associate itself with aging. Here are some tips to help keep you from getting middle age spread.

First, it’s important to know what causes this weight gain. Beginning in our 30s, we begin to lose muscle mass, at the rate of about ½ pound each year. Because muscle burns more calories even while it’s resting than fat does, loss of muscle mass means a slower metabolism - which means weight gain.

This loss of muscle mass and slower metabolism coupled with a tendency to engage in less physical activity as we age produces those pounds that we gain. On average, people gain about 1 pound of weight each year beginning at age 40.

Combating this middle age spread is possible, however. The most significant effect comes from exercise. It’s important that you get in some regular cardiovascular exercise- 30 minutes each day should do the trick. This cardiovascular exercise will burn calories and help speed up your metabolism. It will also keep your heart strong and healthy.

Most doctors recommend walking as the perfect cardiovascular exercise because everyone can do it and you can do it anywhere. There’s basically no excuse for not being able to take a walk every day.

If you can’t manage 30 minutes when you first begin, work up to it over a period of time. Not only will walking help you burn calories more efficiently, but you’ll build some muscle in your lower body, too.

And, building muscle is the second key. You can prevent the muscle loss that comes with age by doing strength training. We’re not talking about turning into a body builder - but rather strengthening the muscle we have and building a little bit more so that we can burn more calories even when resting.

In addition to increasing your metabolism, strength training will help you stay stronger as you age.

For maximum benefit, you’ll need to do strength training 2-3 times each week, for about 20 minutes each time. There are many books and websites that can help you put together a simple routine that will work all your major muscle groups to help you gain strength.

You’ll also need to recognize that you need fewer calories as you age, particularly until you get some significant muscle mass accumulated. One of the reasons that we gain weight as we age is that we keep eating the same amount of food after our metabolism slows down.

This doesn’t mean you should starve; but you should watch your calorie intake and adjust it slightly. As exercise becomes more a part of your routine, you may be able to add some calories back to your diet.

Little Known Tricks

Now, in addition to the basics of diet and exercise, there are some little tricks that can help you combat middle age spread. They are simple, but can have an effect, particularly when used in combination with sensible eating and physical activity.

Eat More Meals

Yes, I said eat more meals. Notice, however, that I didn’t say eat more calories. Spreading your daily caloric intake into five or six meals a day, rather than the usual three can help you to burn more calories, because your metabolism doesn’t have the opportunity to slow down. It may also help you feel more satisfied, particularly if you’re trying to cut calories.

Eat Breakfast

If you’re a breakfast skipper, now’s the time to stop. There are two ways to get your metabolism moving; one is exercise, the other is eating.

By eating first thing in the morning, we get our metabolism going earlier in the day, so that over the length of the day we burn more calories. Be sure your breakfast contains some protein. This will help you feel satisfied longer.

Eat Fiber

Fiber means bulk, which makes us feel full longer. But, fiber also helps keep our food moving efficiently through our digestive system, which can help prevent fat storage.

Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and make sure that any bread or pasta you consume is whole grain. You may find that simply eliminating white flour and replacing it with only whole grains helps you drop a few pounds.

Increase the Caffeine

It appears that increasing your caffeine intake as you age can also help you prevent middle age spread by keeping your metabolism high.

A study reported by the UK Tea Council followed participants over a 12 year period, in order to see how their weight changed as they aged. The study concluded that those participants who increased their caffeine intake as they aged gained less weight than those who decreased or maintained the caffeine intake they had when they were younger.

Be careful when choosing the caffeinated beverages you’ll choose for increasing your intake. Remember that regular sodas are loaded with sugar; you may offset any benefit the caffeine provides.

In addition, many people find themselves sensitive to coffee. The caffeine in coffee sometimes causes jitters, and may cause upset stomach in some people, too.

Probably the best source for increasing your caffeine intake is tea. Tea is healthy, and is available in many varieties. And, if you really want to gain the most health benefits, in addition to increasing your caffeine, make your tea green.

Green tea is different from traditional black tea simply in the way that it’s processed. Black tea is fermented, while green tea is left in its more natural state. This lack of fermentation protects the healthful anti-oxidants in the tea. Anti-oxidants are critical for preventing disease and premature aging.

As our body converts the food we eat into energy, free radicals are created. If these free radicals are left unchecked, they damage our cells and DNA, which eventually leads to disease. Anti-oxidants combat the free radicals to prevent the damage they can cause.

Green tea contains EGCG, one of the most potent anti-oxidants you can find. In fact, in recent years, much research has concluded that green tea has a powerful preventative effect against cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

Green tea also seems to have the ability to boost your metabolism more than other caffeinated beverages - even though its caffeine content is lower than coffee, soda or even black tea. For reasons we don’t fully understand, green tea seems to promote thermogenesis in the body, which helps burn fat.

So, if your caffeine choice is green tea, you may speed up your metabolism even more than if you drink other beverages with caffeine.

And, the best news is that green tea is well tolerated by most people who have trouble with caffeine. Its overall caffeine content is lower than that of coffee, soda or black tea, and its caffeine does not seem to cause the jitters that many people experience from caffeine in other forms. Green tea appears to have no side effects, regardless of the quantity you consume.

Combating aging isn’t easy. But, with a sensible approach that includes a healthy diet, plenty of exercise, and some green tea each day, you might just find yourself feeling fit and healthy at a ripe old age.

All Natural Supplements That Take the Weight Off

Weight problems and obesity are constant topics in the news
these days, because fat has become an epidemic. With this
increase in obesity, there’s also been a huge surge of diet
pills put on the market. Unfortunately, prescription diet pills
are quite expensive and can be uncomfortable - if not downright
dangerous to your health.

Some of the known side effects of prescription diet pills
include: Dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset,
painful urination, blurred vision, adverse effects to the
central nervous system, and decreased sexual drive. Then of
course - since the recent fiasco with prescription pain killers
- there’s not much telling these days whether prescription diet
pills are actually safe.

Luckily there are many all natural herbs and supplements that
can help you lose weight though, here are some of the primary
ones:

L-Carnitine Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) is for fatty acid oxidation
- helping users burn unwanted body fat. Fatty acids are one of
the key energy sources the body uses, and oxidation is the
process by which they’re broken down to create energy. The fatty
acids cannot penetrate the inner mitochondia membrane (where
they are burned for energy), and the key role of L-Carnitine is
to transport fatty acids across the mitochondra membrane to
allow for oxidation of the fats. L-Carnitine plays an important
role in energy production; It helps in weight loss and fat
burning, It transports long-chain fatty acids into the
mitochondra to metabolize and generate energy; Enhances cellular
energy in the brain; Improves mental performance; Helps slow the
effects of aging; Decreases symptoms of depression; Helps
prevent cataracts; Used to support all bodily functions that
have a height energy demand. Green Tea “Better to be deprived of
food for three days, then tea for one.” (Ancient Chinese
Proverb) To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in
which green tea is reputed to be helpful: weight control,
cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels,
cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function.
The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin
polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG
is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of
cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy
tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol
levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots.
The latter takes on added importance when you consider that
thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the
leading cause of heart attacks and stroke. Camellia Sinensis
Camellia Sinesis activates the central nervous system, which may
spar the body’s ability to burn calories and unwanted fat cells
through the Thermogenic process. The phenol groups in Camellia
Sinensis are extremely active, easily able to capture and
neutralize free radicals and other pro-oxidants. Researchers
have found that Camellia Sinensis is over 200 times more
powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing pro-oxidants and free
radicals that attack lipids (oils and fats). Camellia Sinensis
is also 20 times more potent than vitamin E in reducing the
formation of dangerous and potentially mutagenic peroxides that
form in rancid fats and lard. Alpha Lipoic Acid The body needs
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) to produce energy. It plays a crucial
role in the mitochondria, the energy-producing structures in
cells. The body actually makes enough ALA for these basic
metabolic functions. This compound acts as an antioxidant,
however, only when there is an excess of it and it is in the
“free” state in the cells. But there is little free ALA
circulating in your body, unless you consume supplements or get
it injected. Foods contain only tiny amounts of it. What makes
ALA special as an antioxidant is its versatilityâ??it helps
deactivate an unusually wide array of cell-damaging free
radicals in many bodily systems. Bioperine and Piper Nigrum
Bioperine and Piper Nigrum’s value is that it has been
established to enhance the bioavailibility of certain
supplements through increased absorption. In other words, when
combined with Bioperine, numerios vitamins, minerals, amino
acids and anti oxidants are more effeciently absorbed and
utilized in the body. Because of its ability to create enhanced
and more efficient means of nutrient transportation into the
bloodstream, Bioperine may have a positive effect on
thermogenisis, which would lead to an elevated metabolism.
Notwithstanding, Bioperine and Piper Nigrum’s real, proven value
is in it’s ability to enhance the absorption of various
nutrients which is the main benefit it provides to any fat
burner compilation.

Biotin Part of the vitamin B-complex; Biotin is also known as
vitamin H. Biotin helps promote energy production, helps to
maintain a healthy nervous system, good for hair (prevents
greying and baldness) and healthy skin. Biotin is necessary for
both metabolism and growth in humans, particularly with
reference to production of fatty acids, antibodies, digestive
enzymes, and in niacin (vitamin B-3) metabolism.

Losing Weight Tips, Tricks, And Tactics

At one time, nutritionists and health experts believed that healthy people do not need to use detoxification procedures as long as they maintain and eat a well- balanced diet. A Danish chemist recovered from “the point of death” by using sauna. “Dry sauna” has been used for centuries to reverse symptoms in the Hg miners of Spain.

So here is our easy-to-make recipe for green tea, but this one tastes so good you’ll never guess how good it is for you! A great, healthy thirst-quencher for hot summer days.

1.Blood and Lymphatic - Strengthens and invigorates the blood and lymph fluids. 2.Cardiovascular - Greatly improves circulation in the body. 3.Liver and Gallbladder - Rejuvenates the liver. 4.Lungs - Dissolves and expels mucus buildup in the lungs. 5.Kidneys and Bladder - Flushes the kidneys/bladder by removing excess uric acid buildup. 6.Colon Conditioner - Helps to stimulate bowel movement. 7.Carbon - Removes all the toxic residues we unwisely put into our bodies. Movies are after all for entertainment purposes only, and there is nothing remotely entertaining about the reality of alcohol abuse and drug addiction. Addiction can be hell on earth and life in an Alcohol rehab and Drug Rehab can be a nightmare.

Weight Loss Tips, Tricks, And Tactics

I personal lost 60 pounds in 2003. Here are some tactics I used to lose the weight. Get out and do some type of short cardiovascular exercise before breakfast. Even if it is only a ten minute walk. If you want to lose weight this is the best time to exercise. Your body has been working all night without any “new” fuel to help it out. By exercising before breakfast your body will be more likely to go after the fat for energy.

During your morning exercise, imagine yourself with the body you are trying to achieve and come up with a saying that helps motivate you. When I would run in the morning I would say, “every day and every way I am getting leaner, fitter, healthier.” I would repeat it over and over. Basically, detox is about: 1) Recognizing that the body is exposed to toxins in the environment through the food we ingest and the air we breathe;

Hence, it is important to create an alternative that will promptly help the body to gain back its detoxification capacity and fight back imminent diseases.

Time is relative and no two individuals will give the same measurement of time to achieve their goals. It depends on what you are accustomed to in your life.

Cancer rates and cardiovascular disease in the United States alone are among the highest in the world as a result of technology interfering with our food supply and living environments. These also include aerosol cleaners, gasoline, cleaning fluids, butane, and acetone. These things are legal to sell or buy however, they are not controlled substances and they are relatively cheap when compared with drugs.

Eat meats that are 85% lean.

Do not “count” your dailies activities as “exercise”. If you are active at work or playing golf everyday, that’s great. However, your body is use to that. Walking the dog is walking the dog, that is not exercise unless you are running or walking very fast.

Avoid white flour and bleach grains. Try whole-wheat noodles in your spaghetti. It freaked my kids out at first, but now they love it.

Take an antioxidant supplement every day. Most people are just not getting what they need through food.

Going cold turkey from barbiturates can be very serious and might lead to seizures that could become deadly. Alcoholics that stop drinking suddenly can cause delirium tremens, which is a type of psychosis.

When we found this tasty recipe for a warming, detoxifying ginger-turmeric tea, we were thrilled: after the holiday season, we figured we could use some detoxing and healing! Did you know that most deodorants have aluminum as their active ingredient? Your body quickly absorbs this metal, solving the day’s odor problem.

Conventional, mainstream (allopathic) medical practitioners have yet to latch on to this concept, since they’re only trained to treat diseases and symptoms specifically without treating the patient as a whole. Alcohol detox refers to the ability of the human body to rid itself of harmful toxins.

Planning is important if you want to achieve something. Creating simple detox diets require simple planning. You just have to set up the list of foods that you should be eating.
